Analysis of optical properties of fundamental-mode in waveguide tapered fibers

چکیده
An analysis of optical properties of fundamental-mode in waveguide tapered fibers is theoretically investigated and realized in this paper. The waveguide device is tapering an SMF-28 fiber to few tens of micrometers of diameter. For discussing the cladding size of waveguide structure affects the fundamental-mode cutoff (FMC) and the optical characteristics of the devices, to etch outer cladding to reduce the pure-silica cladding diameter proceeded and to compare optical properties of FMC with non-etched cladding tapered fibers. Numerical results show the cutoff wavelength of FMC is mainly dominated by the size of squeezed core and slope of FMC could be influenced by the size of pure-silica cladding. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Influence of depressed-index outer ring on evanescent tunneling loss in tapered double-cladding fibers.
A tapered fiber with a depressed-index outer ring is fabricated and dispersion engineered to generate a widely tunable (1250-1650 nm) fundamental-mode leakage loss with a high cutoff slope (-1.2 dB/nm) and a high attenuation for stop band (>50 dB) by modification of both waveguide and material dispersions. The higher cutoff slope is achieved with a larger cross angle between the two refractive ...
متن کاملAdiabatically tapered periodic segmentation of channel waveguides for mode-size transformation and fundamental mode excitation.
We report modeling, fabrication, and characterization of tapered waveguides, using periodically segmented annealed proton exchange in LiNbO(3). For a taper transforming the 1/e full width (intensity) mode size from 6.0 microm x 4.4 microm to 2.0 microm x 1.3 microm, 0.4-dB excess loss was observed. The large, slightly elliptical mode can ease coupling to single-mode fibers and circular free-spa...
متن کاملTapered Holey Fiber
Adiabatically tapered holey fibers are shown to be potentially useful for guided-wave spot-size and numerical aperture conversion. Conditions for adiabaticity and design guidelines are provided in terms of the effective index model. We also present finite-difference time-domain calculations of down-tapered holey fiber, showing that large spot size conversion factors are obtainable with minimal ...

These waveguides include various polarization-maintaining optical fibers such as elliptical core fibers, bow tie fibers, and side tunnel fibers and integrated optical waveguides such...
متن کاملDevelopment of a vertical optical coupler using a slanted etching of InP/InGaAsP waveguide
We demonstrate a simple and efficient optical coupler for vertical coupling between optical fibers and InP-based waveguides using a slant-etched mirror. The angle of the etched mirror can be controlled by using an aluminum jig with a beveled surface inserted under the substrate during RIE (reactive ion etching) of InP/InGaAsP. The offchip coupler is fabricated simultaneously with a high-mesa wa...
